As an early Christmas present for my self, I snagged a pair of Polk Monitor 70 Series II speakers on sale. My first impressions upon seeing the box, they are HUGE. Now I need a larger TV because these things are giants. With that size come BIG sound. I previously had Polk Audio R15 front speakers, and they were good, but these are great! Lows and mid sounds are much crisper and more powerful, LFE effect with help of a sub-woofer is now simply amazing, and music sounds better then ever. Now, these are not the best speakers in the world, not even close, but for those of us with a normal income, they are close. Many people will argue you can get a better deal with Infinity, Energy or Klipsch speakers, and maybe you can, but for the money I spent ($300 TOTAL) these are a great deal.

One of the best features of the Monitor 70′s is the size of the speakers, there are four 6.5in speakers, and one 1in tweeter per speaker. When I said the speakers are large, I did not just mean tall, they are very deep, almost a foot and a half deep. For some this may be a downside, but remember this depth is where the smooth midtones and solid lows come from. Another cool thing about the Monitor 70s is the way the internal crossover works, instead of all four of the speakers playing all frequencies, it splits the spectrum among the top and bottom two for crisper audio.
If you did not already know, the only difference between the Original Polk Audio Monitor 70′s and the Series II Monitor 70′s is looks. The original had a silver faceplate, as you can see the Series II speakers have a black faceplate. All the internals are the same. I have not yet had the time to make 4 speaker cables, but the monitor 70′s can be used in bi-amp configuration. The top set of binding posts sends audio to the tweeters, the bottom to the other speakers. This allows for more power to the speaker, but will require multiple amplifiers to work correctly.
Overall these were a great purchase, I have a Polk CS2 center, and it is highly recommended that a powerful center, such as this be used. An underpowered center will surely be overpowered by the Monitor 70s, and cause your vocals to be lacking. If you mostly listen to music, this is not a problem when ran in stereo only mode, but for 5.1 or 7.1 movies, Tv, or any type of spoken vocals, a strong center is a must.
